Olga Hawn is a strategy scholar whose research focuses on corporate sustainability and responsibility (CSR). Although sustainability is becoming an increasingly important dimension of overall long-term firm performance, there is significant heterogeneity across firms in their CSR. Prof. Hawn’s research broadly examines 1) the sources of this heterogeneity (that can lead to “different shades of green” in terms of sustainability strategy adoption and implementation,) and 2) the impact of sustainability on firm performance.

Her award-winning research has been published in top journals, such as Strategic Management Journal, Research Policy, Academy of Management Journal and Academy of Management Review. Prof. Hawn is consistently ranked in the top 10% authors on the social science research network. She is currently Associate Editor of the Strategic Management Journal, and a member of the Editorial Board of Organization Science, Academy of Management Journal, Business & Society, and Organization & Environment.

Prof. Hawn earned her PhD in Strategy from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, a Master’s degree in management research from Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, and a Master’s degree in international business and a BA in economics from the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. Prior to joining UNC, she taught strategy at Boston University.
